Every dollar donated across the Fargo region is making a difference for local patients, families and employees. Through philanthropy, lifesaving care is offered close to home at facilities like the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center, the Sanford Medical Center and the Sanford Children’s Hospital. We introduced the region’s first facility dog, Fox who provides comfort and enhances care for patients at Sanford Children’s Hospital. We’re working to provide a home-like retreat for cancer patients and families through the region’s first-ever center for patient lodging. When it opens in 2027, the Peltier Lodge will provide a home away from home for cancer patients and their families.

Local Priorities

Cancer

Home to North Dakota’s only Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Program, the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center has become a regional destination for care. With your help we can expand treatment options, like bone marrow transplant, and enhance services like nurse navigation, art therapy, music therapy, survivorship programs and financial assistance to help cover the costs of lodging, meals and transportation.

The Sanford Children’s Hospital proudly serves as North Dakota’s only Children’s Miracle Network partner hospital. Funds raised stay local to support services and programs like child life, school tutoring, and music therapy, provide education and help purchase lifesaving equipment to save and transform lives, close to home.

Gifts to the Fargo Edith Sanford Breast Center Fund help supplement the costs of lifesaving MRIs and 3D mammograms, supports services like nurse navigation, genetic counseling and survivorship programming at no cost to patients and funds cutting-edge equipment and technology to improve breast cancer detection and treatment.

A region update from Tiffany Lawrence, president & CEO of Sanford Fargo

Last year, 397 individuals received a breast cancer diagnosis at the Edith Sanford Breast Center in Fargo. As we observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, I want to recognize the strength and courage of the women and men behind those numbers, the compassion and dedication of those who care for them, and the generosity of our community that helps ensure these patients never walk alone. Breast cancer impacts more than the person receiving treatment. It touches spouses and partners, children, friends and entire communities. That’s why we believe breast cancer care is about more than treating a disease. It’s about caring for the whole person, supporting families, restoring hope, preserving quality of life and helping patients return to daily life.

Every day, our caregivers and staff at the Edith Sanford Breast Center in Fargo work tirelessly to provide compassionate care for patients and families, from prevention and early detection to treatment, support services including complimentary wigs and head coverings, survivorship initiatives and more! Helping patients return to the people, places and moments they cherish most. Philanthropy plays a vital role in making this work possible. Your support powers the equipment and technology that allowed our Fargo team to conduct 13,517 mammograms and 2,061 biopsies last year. It helps advance care and expand access through efforts like our Mobile Mammography Units and our newly renovated Edith Sanford Breast Center. And it ensures patients receive the resources they need throughout the journey.

Simply put, philanthropy enables us to surround breast cancer patients with everything they need from day one of a diagnosis. As we observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I want to thank you again for your partnership, your generosity and your commitment to making a difference for patients and families across our communities.
