Local Priorities

Philanthropy is an integral part of the care provided at Sanford Health. The Sanford Health Foundation in the Bismarck region plays a crucial role in supporting specific programming for patients and staff, upgrading essential equipment, and funding special projects tailored to meet the needs of our communities.

Cancer

This year, hundreds of local patients count on the Sanford Cancer Center in Bismarck. Through philanthropy, we provide travel assistance for qualifying patients who drive significant distances for care, offer complimentary wigs and head coverings, upgrade equipment to offer access to lifesaving MRIs and 3D mammograms, and so much more.

The Sanford Children’s Hospital Bismarck supports local infants, kids and teens everyday through Child Life services to help kids cope with the fear and uncertainties of hospitalization, financial assistance to help families with costs not covered by insurance, lifesaving pediatric equipment like ventilators and monitors, and so much more.

As we recognize National Cancer Survivors Month, I find myself reflecting on the word “moments.” For those navigating a cancer journey, moments matter. The moment a patient receives a life-changing diagnosis. The moments of hope and healing during treatment. And the moment every cancer patient looks forward to — ringing the bell at the end of treatment. At the Sanford Cancer Center in Bismarck, our care teams want every cancer patient to experience that moment. To help them get there, we use state of the art technology for diagnosis and treatment, offer access to hundreds of clinical trials and provide support programs to give patients the best chance of living beyond cancer — all of which are fueled by generous philanthropic investments from friends like you.

We are so grateful to be in a community that shows up and steps forward when it matters most. We see it time and time again, including earlier this month when our 2026 Blueway events raised more than $380,000 for patients and families at the Sanford Bismarck Cancer Center. As we celebrate National Cancer Survivors Month, we honor those who have rung the bell, the caregivers who walk beside them and the generous donors whose support ensures that here, no one faces cancer alone. Because of you, hope is never out of reach — and we are so grateful.
