giving for good fargo

Every dollar donated across the Fargo region is making a difference for local patients, families and employees. Through philanthropy, lifesaving care is offered close to home at facilities like the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center, the Sanford Medical Center and the Sanford Children’s Hospital. We introduced the regions first facility dog, Fox who provides comfort and enhances care for patients at Sanford Children’s Hospital. We’re working to provide a home-like retreat for cancer patients and families through the region’s first-ever center for patient lodging. When it opens in 2026, the Peltier Lodge will provide a home away from home for cancer patients and their families.

Last year, we put $3.5 million in philanthropic gifts to work across the Fargo region. Read more in the 2024 annual report.

Local Priorities

Philanthropy is an integral part of the care provided at Sanford Health. The Sanford Health Foundation in the Fargo region plays a crucial role in supporting specific programming for patients and staff, upgrading essential equipment, and funding special projects tailored to meet the needs of our communities.

The Peltier Lodge

With your support, we can move forward on construction of the Peltier Lodge, an on-campus lodging facility designed to provide patients and their families with a home away from home during treatment and throughout their outpatient care and monitoring.

Cancer

Home to North Dakota’s only Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Program, the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center has become a regional destination for care. With your help we can expand treatment options, like bone marrow transplant, and enhance services like nurse navigation, art therapy, music therapy, survivorship programs and financial assistance to help cover the costs of lodging, meals and transportation.

Leadership Connection

A region update from Tiffany Lawrence, president & CEO of Sanford Fargo
July 31, 2025

In my role, I’m privileged to witness philanthropy at work every day across our Fargo Region. Seeing how the generosity of others makes a difference for patients and families navigating life’s most vulnerable moments is not only deeply meaningful to me, it’s also a reminder of the amazing, generous community we call home. I saw this firsthand earlier this month when we celebrated the grand opening of Cully’s Cottage, our new play space at the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center.

Designed as a sister space to Cully’s Cabin, the play area inside Sanford Children’s Hospital, Cully’s Cottage was made possible through the vision and generosity of the Cullen Children’s Foundation, founded in 2003 by Moorhead, MN., natives Matt and Bridget Cullen. A three-time Stanley Cup champion, Matt enjoyed a remarkable 21-season NHL career, playing in over 1,500 games. In 2024, he was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

Members of the Cullen Children’s Foundation worked closely with our pediatric oncology staff to plan and develop the space, which offers pediatric cancer patients a much-needed escape — a place where they can trade the stress of their diagnosis for moments of laughter, play and joy.

I couldn’t be prouder to see how this space came together in such a special way. Seeing our pediatric cancer patients of all ages — from toddlers to teens — inside Cully’s Cottage is a beautiful reminder of what we can achieve when we come together with love and kindness. We are so grateful.
