At Sanford Health, we’re all united by a common calling to care, and we couldn’t be more grateful for colleagues who choose to live out that calling in a special way as employee donors.
Kaci Petersen has been a steadfast presence at Sanford Health in Bemidji for 23 years, serving in various roles before assuming her current position as an inpatient medical coder. Nearly as long as she’s been an employee, Kaci has also been a loyal employee donor, believing in the power of collective generosity to create meaningful change.

Kaci’s giving story is one of quiet generosity and a deep belief in the ripple effect of kindness.
“My mom and dad raised me to give back,” Kaci said. “They always said, ‘the smallest act of kindness can change someone’s life.’ They really influenced me.”
For Kaci’s family, giving is not only a chance to advance health care for the Bemidji region, it’s also a chance to recognize exceptional caregivers.
“When you work in health care, you want the facility you work at to be the best for your community. My family has navigated a number of health journeys over the years, and we were met with excellent care and kindness at every turn. It’s special to be able to pay that forward,” she said. “Through the Guardian Angel program, we can celebrate caregivers who have made a difference,” she said.
In 2024, more than 13,100 employees, like Kaci, made gifts to advance our mission of care. Their contributions totaled more than $3.2 million.
“Our employees continue to step forward in generosity — it says so much about their dedication to our patients, residents and families, their belief in our mission, and their commitment to each other. It’s truly a beautiful thing to witness,” said Deb Koski, chief philanthropy officer.
