The community of Fargo came together in philanthropy to help advance cancer care.
The Roger Maris Gala, held on Wednesday, June 19, raised over $1 million to support a new patient lodging facility to be built near the campus of the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center. Launched thanks to a transformational lead gift from local philanthropist Norma Peltier prior to her passing last year, the 44,000 square foot Peltier Lodge will provide a home away from home for cancer patients and their loved ones during their treatment and throughout their outpatient care and monitoring.
“Today at the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center, nearly half of our patients travel more than 60 miles to visit us for the most advanced cancer care available, including lifesaving therapies offered through North Dakota’s only Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Program,” said Tiffany Lawrence, president of Sanford Health, Fargo. “But for patients who are far from home, cancer treatment and follow-up outpatient care and monitoring can take a toll — physically, emotionally and financially. The Peltier Lodge will help ease those burdens, so we’re so grateful to our community for stepping forward in philanthropy to help us bring our dream for a patient lodging facility to life.”
A Place for Healing and Comfort
Designed in collaboration with the teams at Roger Maris, the 44,000 square-foot Peltier Lodge will serve as a haven for healing — featuring intelligently designed spaces to support oncology and transplant patients and their loved ones during treatment and throughout their outpatient care and monitoring.
Helping Hope Ring
Since the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center opened in 1990, its lifesaving mission has not changed, but cancer treatment and the needs of our patients have. Last year alone, our Nurse Navigators welcomed 4,004 new cancer patients to our care teams and today, we are treating nearly 400 children with pediatric cancers.
