In a remarkable show of generosity, the Bemidji community came together last week to help launch a new chapter in pediatric health care for kids and families across the region.
Pours for a Purpose, held on Friday, June 13, raised $220,802 to help launch the region’s first Child Life program, an initiative designed to help pediatric patients, and their families navigate a medical journey with less fear and uncertainty.
“This year, more than 12,000 local kids of all ages will turn to Sanford Children’s in Bemidji for all types of pediatric care. For those who need extra or unexpected care, Child Life will provide the support and guidance pediatric patients, and their families need, every step of the way,” said Karla Eischens, president for Sanford Health, Bemidji. “We are so grateful to the generosity of our community for stepping forward to support this program. It really will be a game-changer for thousands of kids across our area — kids who are the future of our community.”
Comfort That Matters, at No Cost to Families
Offered at no cost to families thanks to the generosity of local donors, our Child Life program will work collaboratively between our emergency department, surgical services, clinic services, the Joe Lueken Cancer Center and inpatient units to bring comfort, guidance and reassurance to pediatric patients and their loved ones when it matters most.
Fueled by philanthropy, our Child Life program will surround children and their loved ones with support and compassionate care from the moment they enter our doors through efforts like these:

- Pretend Play
- Personalized Care Plans
- Family-Centered Care
