A Home Away From Home

Home to North Dakota’s only blood and bone marrow transplant program, today the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center stands as a regional destination for world-class care.

While every transplant patient’s situation is unique, most will spend two to six weeks in inpatient care. Depending on the type of transplant, patients and their caregivers are required to spend an additional 30-100 days in close proximity to Roger Maris for outpatient care and monitoring.

For patients and loved ones who are far from home, cancer treatment and outpatient care can take a toll — physically, emotionally and financially. The Peltier Lodge will help ease these burdens for cancer patients and their families, offering a state-of-the-art home like retreat for comfort and healing.

Today’s Growing Need

We invite you to partner with us as we continue our work to advance and transform cancer care and treatment. With your support, we can accelerate plans for the Peltier Lodge, a priority project made possible entirely through philanthropy and launched thanks to a transformational lead gift from philanthropist Norma Peltier.

The Urgency

Since the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center opened in 1990, its lifesaving mission has not changed but cancer treatment and the needs of our patients have.

  • Over the last 10 years, cancer cases at Roger Maris have increased 34%. Last year alone, our Nurse Navigators cared for more than 4,000 new cancer patients.
  • Of the more than 600 patients who come through the doors of the Roger Maris Cancer Center each day, nearly half are traveling more than 60 miles to visit us for the most advanced cancer care and treatment options available, including autologous and allogeneic bone marrow transplants, as well as groundbreaking
    CAR-T cell immunotherapy.
  • Each day, an average of 54 Roger Maris patients need temporary and long-term lodging. As our blood and bone marrow transplant program continues to grow, we expect that number to nearly double in the coming years

Help For Their Journey

The Peltier Lodge is more than a patient lodging facility, it is a movement to surround cancer patients with all the good they need for the healthy futures they deserve. As more and more patients turn to us, the need for the Peltier Lodge is greater than ever. 100% of your gift will help accelerate this project, making a difference for patients and families when it matters most.

Give for Cancer Patients

The Peltier Lodge will…

  • Feature private spaces for patients and their families, common areas for gathering like a wellness room, multipurpose room and an outdoor courtyard patio.
  • Seamlessly extend world-class standards of care and quality beyond the walls of Roger Maris to a home-like retreat where patients can find support, connection and comfort during outpatient treatment.
  • Allow Roger Maris to expand the blood and bone marrow transplant program, with the potential to add more services to help more patients.
  • Play a critical role in patient care and foster better outcomes so patients can get back to living fully in the place they truly call home.

Thanks to a Transformational Lead Gift

Plans for the Peltier Lodge, a project made possible entirely through philanthropy, are underway thanks to a transformational lead gift from philanthropist Norma Peltier.

Inspired by her own family’s health care experiences, Norma sought to help patients and families who need a home away from home while they receive treatment at the Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center.

With your support, we can advance Norma’s legacy of care and move forward on the Peltier Lodge. Together we can bring hope and comfort to patients and their loved ones as they navigate the cancer journey!
