Last year, we put $1.5 million in philanthropic gifts to work across the Bismarck region. Read more in the 2024 annual report.

Local Priorities

Philanthropy is an integral part of the care provided at Sanford Health. The Sanford Health Foundation in the Bismarck region plays a crucial role in supporting specific programming for patients and staff, upgrading essential equipment, and funding special projects tailored to meet the needs of our communities.

Cancer

This year, hundreds of local patients count on the Sanford Cancer Center in Bismarck. Through philanthropy, we provide travel assistance for qualifying patients who drive significant distances for care, offer complimentary wigs and head coverings, upgrade equipment to offer access to lifesaving MRIs and 3D mammograms, and so much more.

Leadership Connection

A monthly Bismarck region update from Todd Schaffer, MD, president & CEO of Sanford Bismarck.

September 25, 2025

At Sanford Health, our mission to care, comfort and cure is brought to life each day by our incredible health care heroes and staff who give their all for the patients and families we serve. Heroes like Kristen Johnson, a nurse navigator at the Sanford Cancer Center, and Melissa Schmautz, a child life specialist for Sanford Children’s — each of whom plays a huge role in helping pediatric cancer patients like Hannah navigate the journey from diagnosis to survivorship.

While our employees live out our mission, support from friends like you is what fuels it. Your kindness and generosity empower us to envision new and better treatments, new possibilities and new ways to help patients achieve the healthy futures they deserve. Our work at the Sanford Cancer Center is a great example. Here, more than 100 patients each day are on their own unique and deeply personal journeys. And thanks to friends like you, we are there for them every step of the way. Learn more about our work to advance cancer care across central and western North Dakota and find ways to get involved.
