Local Priorities

Philanthropy is an integral part of the care provided at Sanford Health. The Sanford Health Foundation in the Bismarck region plays a crucial role in supporting specific programming for patients and staff, upgrading essential equipment, and funding special projects tailored to meet the needs of our communities.

Cancer

This year, hundreds of local patients count on the Sanford Cancer Center in Bismarck. Through philanthropy, we provide travel assistance for qualifying patients who drive significant distances for care, offer complimentary wigs and head coverings, upgrade equipment to offer access to lifesaving MRIs and 3D mammograms, and so much more.

The Sanford Children’s Hospital Bismarck supports local infants, kids and teens everyday through Child Life services to help kids cope with the fear and uncertainties of hospitalization, financial assistance to help families with costs not covered by insurance, lifesaving pediatric equipment like ventilators and monitors, and so much more.

Last year marked a milestone for the Sanford Cancer Center here in Bismarck as we cared for a record number of patients — many of whom traveled more than 100 miles to reach us. This year, we expect patient numbers to set another record. National and local cancer trends, along with predictive modeling, indicate the need for cancer care and treatment will only grow in the years ahead. But thanks to your support, we are rising to meet this moment, bringing innovative outreach efforts and the most sophisticated screening technologies to the Bismarck region.

Our lung nodule clinic is a great example. In its first year, our lung nodule clinic conducted nearly 900 CT lung screens, allowing us to diagnose abnormalities earlier, before symptoms manifest — resulting in 56 oncology referrals, 21 surgical referrals and 13 radiation-oncology referrals. All this was made possible thanks to state-of-the-art equipment, including Ion Robotic technology, made possible thanks in part to local donors. It’s another powerful example of how philanthropy is transforming cancer care right here in our community. We simply can’t thank you enough.
