2026 Blueway Events Raise $380,980 for Cancer Care in Bismarck

Earlier this week, hundreds gathered to let hope ring for cancer patients and families across central and western North Dakota during two special events hosted by the Sanford Health Foundation in Bismarck.

The Blueway Invitational golf tournament, held Tuesday, June 9, and the Blueway Gala, held Wednesday, June 10, collectively raised $380,980 to support the growing number of patients who turn to the Sanford Cancer Center in Bismarck each year.

“Last year, we cared for more than 46,000 patients from across our region — 30% of whom traveled 100 miles or more to visit us,” said Fred Fridley, chief operating officer for Sanford Bismarck.

“Behind these numbers are real stories of real people who are facing the heartbreak and disruption of a cancer diagnosis. People at every age and every stage of life, from large and small communities across our region. While every patient is unique, one common thread weaves every cancer story together, and that’s the enduring power of hope,” he said.

“Thanks to the generous support of our community during our 2026 Blueway events, patients can continue to find hope, strength and healing at the Sanford Cancer Center in Bismarck. Our hearts are so full. We simply can’t say thank you enough.”

The Power of Hope

In the fight against cancer, hope is one of our most powerful tools — helping patients endure, find strength and persevere.

More than anything, hope lights the way forward, allowing those with cancer to see a life beyond their diagnosis.

At the 2026 Blueway Gala, eight local cancer survivors shared what hope meant to them.

“For those with cancer, hope is the promise of more time. Of more memories. Of more moments that matter,” said Sara Haugen, vice president for the Sanford Health Foundation in Bismarck. “Hope means everything.”

“For each of these survivors, their hope was strengthened by the expert and compassionate care they received at the Sanford Cancer Center in Bismarck,” she said. “Now, they are sharing their stories of hope and healing to inspire support for others who will face a cancer diagnosis in the weeks and months ahead. We are so grateful.”

The Impact

100% of every dollar raised at the 2026 Blueway events supports areas like these — surrounding patients with everything they need from day one of a diagnosis.

    • Nurse navigation offers education and guidance from day one of a breast cancer diagnosis.
    • Lifesaving equipment including 3D mammography, precision ultrasounds and Ion Robotic technology helps identify cancer at its earliest possible stage, when the disease is most treatable.
    • Survivorship programs help cancer survivors manage physical and emotional healing, navigate follow‑up care and regain confidence as they return to their lives.
    • Direct assistance helps ease the everyday burdens of cancer by providing complimentary wigs and headcoverings as well as support for treatment-related costs like meals, mileage and lodging.
