Why I give: Nona Bixler

January 22, 2020

After working at Sanford Health for only two years, Nona Bixler had a strong connection with her Sanford family. She celebrated the good times and relied on them when, as a single mother of three daughters, she struggled to provide for her family.

One day, her colleagues in the business office sensed her anxiety and left her a note of encouragement and $100.

“Those individuals will never know how that touched my life,” she said.

After 34 years, Nona continues to work at Sanford as the director of volunteer services and is passionate about supporting the employee crisis fund through the Sanford Health Foundation.

This special fund provides financial aid to employees facing unforeseen circumstances that significantly affect their ability to meet basic needs, like food, housing, clothing and transportation. Sanford employees can make monetary or PTO donations to assist their colleagues when they need it most.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without Sanford,” Bixler said. “They’ve given me opportunities and so I can’t think of a better way to say thank you than to give through the Foundation.”
