Norman Jones’s belief in the importance of family, integrity and Christian values has served him well in business and in life. As former chairman and chief executive officer of Metropolitan Financial Corporation, a business with $8 billion in assets and 210 offices in eight states, Jones remembers the early days when Metropolitan was a small seven-employee business located in a tiny north Fargo office.
“I believe we’ve been successful because we’re located in a part of the country where people still believe in honesty and integrity,” he said. “When they borrow money, they believe in paying it back. We also had a lot of dedicated employees who had strong Midwestern values who were willing to work to make it happen. They were an important part of our Metropolitan family.”
Norman and his wife, Eunice, are also proud to be part of another family: Sanford Health. They became donors to the Sanford Health Foundation in 1985.
Their philosophy is simple. “Stay with what you believe in.”
Since Norman and Eunice made their first gift 33 years ago, they have supported several different priorities, including Children’s Miracle Network and Roger Maris Cancer Center. But their most significant investment in health care in North Dakota and western Minnesota came last year when they pledged a naming-level gift to the pediatric trauma program as part of the Building Tomorrow Today campaign.
In celebration of the Jones’s extraordinary philanthropy, a gathering space in the front lobby of the new Sanford Medical Center Fargo is named in their honor.
Ty Hegland, executive director of the Sanford Health Foundation, said Norman and Eunice’s generosity truly inspires him. They have been steadfast partners of Sanford Health’s mission through their time, talent and gifts.
“When they stepped forward to help pediatric trauma, it was due to their belief in having the absolute best care close to home,” Hegland said. “At Sanford Health and Sanford Children’s Hospital, we’re so fortunate to have such great supporters and we cannot thank them enough.”
Thank you to all of our donors who invested in the expansion of programs and services at the new Sanford Medical Center Fargo by supporting the Building Tomorrow Today campaign. Gifts from this campaign are at work right now at Sanford Health, providing health and healing close to home.
