giving for good sioux falls

In partnership with supporters across the Sioux Falls region, we not only help build world-class facilities, like the Castle of Care and Ava’s House, but together we help touch the lives of every patient, family and caregiver who walks through the doors.

Last year, we put $7.4 million in philanthropic gifts to work across the Sioux Falls region.

We added a new full-time, philanthropy-funded behavioral health therapist for Sanford Child’s Voice, treated Sanford’s first patients with a type 1 diabetes medication called Tzield, provided nearly one ton of food each week to patient families through Kids’ Kitchen, and supported those impacted by breast cancer through nurse navigation, new 3D mammography technology, complimentary head coverings, and survivorship programs.

Local Priorities

The Sanford Health Foundation serves four diverse regions, each with their own distinct and meaningful priorities. Here are some of the initiatives that the Sioux Falls region supports.

For Children

Philanthropy supports the Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, the region’s only Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals partner, through services like Child Life, Child’s Voice, specialized summer camps for kids living with chronic health condition, spiritual care, school tutoring and so much more.

For Breast Health

Gifts to the Sioux Falls Edith Sanford Breast Center help supplement the costs of lifesaving MRIs and 3D mammograms, provide complimentary head coverings and wigs for patients, and supports services like nurse navigation, genetic counseling and survivorship programming at no cost to patients and clinical trials to make breakthroughs in care.

For Cancer

We give more hope, healing and comfort to patients at the Sanford Cancer Center in Sioux Falls through services like nurse navigation, survivorship programming, healing arts, massage therapy and through the latest advancements in technology and equipment to support cancer prevention, detection and treatment.

For Tiny Miracles

The region’s critically ill and fragile babies get the care they need through advanced technologies like Giraffe OmniBeds to mimic the carefully controlled environment of the womb, Panda Warmers to help with newborn transitions, and A NICVIEW System to allow family members to virtually visit baby anytime, anywhere.

Leadership Connection

A monthly Sioux Falls region update from Paul Hanson, president & CEO of Sanford Sioux Falls

May 30th, 2024

After years of dreaming and many months of planning and construction, last month we celebrated the grand opening of the Billion Pavilion at the Sanford Children’s Hospital. This state-of-the-art accessible playground was made possible thanks entirely to philanthropy, including a lead gift from David and Christine Billion. I can’t begin to explain what a joy it’s been to witness our pediatric patients and families make use of this special place that features a covered picnic shelter for children who cannot be in the sun, as well as other unique equipment like a spring rider, patterned path routes, Oodle Swing, sound arch, physical therapy steps, planting gardens and Henry the Caterpillar, a climbing caterpillar named in honor of Henry Carlson Jr. and made possible thanks to the generosity of Henry Carlson Company. We’re already hearing from our teams at the Castle of Care about how the Billion Pavilion is providing pediatric patients the chance to experience the healing power of the outdoors and the restorative magic of play.

Please join me in celebrating the donors who made this special project possible,

Paul Hanson
