At just 5 years old, Jaxon Kaiser began an epic battle against a terrifying opponent: acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). For three long years, he endured countless medical tests and hospital stays, as well as treatment and the side effects that went with it.
But just like a hero, Jaxon showed courage beyond his years. He battled his cancer all the way to remission earlier this year; a victory for him and his family!
“We were free and it was amazing,” said his mom, Laura. “We were looking forward to our first family vacation this summer.”
But, before they could even book a hotel room, the Kaisers learned Jaxon’s cancer was back.
“It was like getting a punch in the face,” Laura said. “He was three days from getting his port taken out, so that was hard for all of us to grasp. Here we were, literally back to step one.”
Now 8, Jaxon has returned to Sanford Children’s to start treatment — again. This time the treatments will take longer and the chemotherapy will be stronger.
Jaxon’s hero squad
Right now, the Kaiser family continues to rely on Sanford Children’s Miracle Network donors to be a part of their support system. They know firsthand how generous donors impact their daily life.
“They make remission possible,” Laura said. “There are so many people that, whether they know Jaxon personally or not, care about him, think about him and pray for him. It’s really unbelievable, and that support keeps us moving on.”
Needless to say — Jaxon still needs your help.
When you make a gift to Sanford Children’s Miracle Network, you are an important part of Jaxon’s journey — his “hero squad” — making sure he and his family have access to everything they need for this battle against ALL.
What you can do
