This year's event raised more than $8,000 in assistance for patients at Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center.

Change In 24 shows cancer patients they aren’t alone

November 16, 2020

On Nov. 12, donors came together for Change In 24, a 24-hour online fundraiser to support Roger Maris patients. Together, we raised more than $8,000 for local patients.

The impact of a cancer diagnosis is overwhelming.

While fighting to survive, too many local patients and families also struggle to make ends meet while paying out-of-pocket costs related to care, like travel expenses.

Hear more from social worker Michael Burson:

At Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center, more than 50 percent of cancer patients travel 50 miles or more for their care. The cost of that drive and time away from home adds up, to the point where some patients consider stopping treatment.

One patient lived just a couple hours west of Fargo and was already on a fixed income. He didn’t know how he could afford to continue treatment. Then he received assistance from Foundation donors.

This gesture was truly lifesaving and showed this patient — and hundreds of others — that they aren’t alone in their fight against cancer. He successfully finished treatment and is doing great today.

You don’t have to wait until next year’s Change In 24 to support cancer patients in need. Make a gift today to bring hope to more cancer patients in the year to come.

100% of every dollar will provide direct assistance for costs not covered by insurance, including transportation, lodging and food, to Roger Maris patients and families who need it most.
