Thank you to everyone who supported Brave Kids Bold Cures at the 11th annual Savor the Flavor, The Grand Chef Show-off. This year’s event raised more than $253,500 to benefit our Brave Kids Bold Cures initiative and the Sanford Children’s pediatric oncology program.
Attendees had the chance to meet event ambassador Katlyn Calhoun, an extraordinary young woman from Williston, N.D. At 18, Katlyn was planning to start college and make a life for herself. That all changed when she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Ewing sarcoma last February, just a few weeks before her 19th birthday.
Since starting treatment, Katlyn hasn’t been home for a full week at a time, but the staff at Sanford Children’s help make her time here in Bismarck as comfortably normal as it can be. Donor support for Brave Kids Bold Cures and the pediatric oncology program at Sanford Children’s make that possible.
Learn more about Katlyn’s story in this video shown at Savor the Flavor:
Katlyn hopes to finish treatment by the end of the year. Her experience at Sanford Children’s has inspired her to pursue a career working with children.
